Introduction to Sewing a Garment

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 6:30 - 9:00 September 17, 18, 19, 2024
The project for this class is a drawstring/elastic waistband pajama style pant. This has proven to be a great starter project to learn the basics of garment construction and to achieve success by completing your project. Learn and understand the commercial sewing pattern envelope and how to determine the proper size for construction and fit. Learn the terminology and language of sewing, build sewing skills and increase your sewing machine knowledge. We will address how to read a commercial pattern, understand instruction sheets, correct cutting, marking, pressing, and seam finishing techniques as well as simple pattern adjustments and fitting. Sewing machines and pressing equipment will be provided for you in a bright, fully equipped classroom. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine to class, as long as it is in good repair and you understand it’s operation. In the first class we will be looking at the pattern and taking measurements. Please dress in leggings or thin pants and a t-shirt.
CLASS POLICIES
- Full Payment of class fees due at time of registration to guarantee a place in the class. Phone registration is available with Visa or MasterCard. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class start. A store credit will be issued provided your cancellation does not reduce class participation below minimum number required. Minimum number of students is four, maximums vary by class. Sawyers reserves the right to cancel 48 hours prior to any class if participation level is below minimum. Sawyers will issue a full refund for any class we cancel.
- Please pick up a supply list at time of registration. Purchase supplies prior to arriving for class.
- Those registered for a class receive a 15% discount on class supplies.
- Please mark all tools and supplies. Sawyers is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Please refrain from wearing perfumes in consideration of fellow classmates with allergies
