Sewing is fun when you get the results you want. Our classes are small and feature personalized instruction. You will be encouraged to do your best while enjoying successful experiences. Because each student cuts and sews at a different rate, and most projects take more than class time, please expect some work will need to be done at home between classes. Before signing up for classes, please check your schedule and read our class policies carefully. To be fair to our teachers and other students we must remain firm in our registration and cancellation policies.

• Full Payment of class fees due at time of registration. This guarantees a place in the class.
• Phone registration is available with Visa or MasterCard. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class start. A store credit will be issued provided your cancellation does not reduce class participation below minimum number required. Minimum number of students is four, maximums vary by class. When applicable the teacher will be glad to leave class notes. Sawyers' reserves the right to cancel 48 hours prior to any class if participation level is below minimum. Sawyers will issue a full refund for any class we cancel.
• Please pick up a supply list at time of registration. Purchase supplies prior to arriving for class.
• Those registered for a class receive a 15% discount on class supplies.
• Please mark all tools and supplies. Sawyers is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
• Possible make up classes are arranged with the teacher at her discretion for a cost of $20.00per hr. + HST ($22.40). Please refrain from wearing perfumes in consideration of fellow classmates with allergies.

• ***There is a different cancellation policy for "travelling guest teachers" where there are travel and flights booked well in advance of the class date. Cancellation notice must be made 30 days in advance of the class start date with a non-refundable $50.00 fee. After the 30-day cancellation has expired there will be no refund given. We will endeavour to find a replacement for your spot in the class, however, we must remain firm in our registration and cancellation policies. Because these classes are booked so far in advance, it is imperative that personal schedules be checked by each student before the 30-day cancellation date.

5D Embroidery works on all brands of embroidery machines. If you have the 5D EMBROIDERY SUITE or parts of the software then this is the class for you. You will take a tour through the many facets of the software.

Designed for those who have already purchased software. Laptop required together with embroidery machine. Lets get going and keep going with the software and really use it to advantage. Three new classes scheduled.

This course is designed for a beginner with very little or no sewing experience. Learn to operate the sewing machine while building the basic skills of sewing and finishing seams, making darts, sewing a curve, proper pressing techniques, and how to use fusible interfacing. Learn how to do small repairs like hemming a pair of pants or jeans. You will make a binder of samples for future reference. Build your skills in a bright classroom where the sewing machines are supplied.

This class is designed for those students who have taken Level 1 Sewing or have completed a garment from a commercial pattern recently and have a clear understanding of all topics covered in Level 1 (see class description). Students are encouraged to choose a project that will slightly challenge their previous sewing skills; for example darts, zipper, facings, collar, cuffs, buttons and buttonholes, set-in sleeve etc. For first class bring pre-washed fabric, pattern, all basic sewing supplies, shears, pins, measuring tape, fabric marker and thread). Since you already know your correct pattern size, these measurements will be needed for minor pattern adjustments.

Due to popular demand Pat is adding morning time to her "Supervised Quilting Class" Want to stretch your quilting capabilities? Having problems starting a project? In the middle of a project and need some encouragement? Need a little help with a new piecing design or technique? This is the place for you! Bring in your project/s and cut, sit and sew. An experienced teacher is here to help you and share ideas and possibilities.

Based on Martha Pullen Sew Beautiful Class Club. Every month we will meet to work on the latest project. Each project is a surprise and incorporates both an embroidery design and a technique. The class list will be available one week before the class. Students will need to contact Pat for the embroidery design in order to transfer the embroidery design to their machine/card/stick. A Very popular class so book early for each class date. Design fee $7.00 to teacher

Choose two coordinating fabrics to construct this pocketed pad for use under your sewing machine or serger. Useful pockets (for tools and scraps) are embellished with pintucks and lace. All done on the serger. Kit fee for trims and lace $7.00 to teacher.

Learn heirloom techniques on your serger – lace to fabric, lace to lace, fabric to entredeux, pin tucks. Then construct a cushion cover with these techniques. Kit fee including fabrics and trims $18.00 to teacher.

Do you have unfinished projects that you would love to finish but need just a little help or guidance? Wish you had a fun place to go for an afternoon of sewing? "Sew with Fern Days" are just that! Bring a project(s) that you are working on or a fitting project that you could use help with. Fern will offer advice and help as required. It is not a structured class as each person will be working on different projects. Techniques demonstrated for each individual will be shared with fellow classmates if they choose to watch. Limited numbers so you get lots of attention. A fun day with like minded sewers. Get ready to get organized and finish some of those unfinished projects….

Are you intimidated by patterns with zipper closures? Been awhile since you put in a zipper? Learn the ins and outs of inserting zippers in this hands-on class. Three short length zippers will be used for easy handling. A zipper will be inserted in a mock jacket front; A box pocket opening will be constructed and zipper closure inserted; an invisible zipper will be inserted to simulate high end ready to wear pants and skirts. After this class zipper insertion will be a breeze.

Make your own lingerie. Lingerie is easy to make and lovely to wear. Treat yourself to a lovely camisole or panty or both. Learn techniques of lace application, decorative finishes, and comfortable elastic application. Time tested fabrics like silk and cotton plus new technical wick away fabrics, which are soft and keep the body dry. Lots of colours are available to add to the basics. Get the fit you need in the styles you desire.

This workshop is designed for the woman who wants to fit and sew her pants in one weekend. The two fitting pattern choices are classic waistband with a hint of elastic (if desired) or a contour faced waistband. Both of these patterns may be lined. Number of students is limited so each student receives lots of attention. Making your own well fitted pants is a pleasure. Get the fit you want in the fabric of your choice.

In this class you will fit an upper torso pattern of your choice. You will learn what size is best for you. How to alter your pattern and do adjustments that you need to achieve a good fit. How to read the pattern envelope to get all the information that applies to your size. Back, shoulder, bust adjustments will be demonstrated. You will finish the class with a pattern that fits you. This is a fun and informative class.

Simple serging is a series of 3 classes to introduce or update your skills with your serger. You can register for one, two or all three.

Simple Serging 1 Which stitch? Are you getting the most from your serger? Where and why to use the stitch the stitch options. Understanding differential feed. Proper finishing techniques to achieve that professional look. All fabrics are provided in the kit. KIT FEE $10.00

Simple Serging 2 The serger can do a lot more than finishing. Learn how to gather, flatlock, and use decorative threads. Decorative techniques and elastic application will be covered. Kit fee $10.00

Simple Serging 3. Rolled Edge. Rolled edge isn't just for napkins!!! How and where to use this very useful function on your serger. 2 surprise take home samples Kit fee $10.00

Polar fleece is a favourite fabric for our West Coast weather. It is soft, lofty, and warm. Make a comfortable cozy vest or coat for yourself or for someone special. Learn to handle this fabulous easy care fabric. Make it dressy or casual so it suits your style your way.

A jacket is a wardrobe basic. Wear it casually with jeans or dressed up as part of a gala outfit. Make the jacket that fits your lifestyle and your body type. There are so many choices for style and fabric available to the home sewer. Casual jeans jacket, water resistant walking coat or a fitted lined classic are some of the options.

Fit and sew a stylish dress that is your style and your colour. You can keep it a simple classic straight sheath, which is easy to dress, up or down. Make it in a fun print that makes you happy each time you reach for it. You can be ready for work or that special occasion by making your classic sheath dress your way.
This is a 2 part class.

Have you thought you might like to try your hand at quilting but not quite sure where to start? Want to try a small project before investing lots of class time and materials?? Lezlie offers choose your own block or pattern instead. Make one block into a small project such as a table runner or pillow, or keep sewing enough blocks for a larger quilt. Lezlie will instruct the specifics of the chosen block as well as assist where needed on your quilting project. Come quilt and learn with like minded sewers. Learn about String Piecing. Come and learn the "Pineapple Block" and make a pillow cover or Table Runner (Lezlie's Design) Thursday afternoons – Book one or more dates.

These sewing machine clubs give you the opportunity to try some different projects and techniques on your sewing machine. Participants bring their own machines for a "Hands-on" experience. We also include news from Sawyers, information about new products and machine updates, and Show and Share items by members (always inspiring).

The Computerized Machine Club includes all brands of computerized sewing machines. Techniques and projects will include decorative and utility stitching. They will not use hooped embroidery designs. Pat Dykes will be the instructor.

The Janome/Babylock TOL and Pfaff TOL Clubs will focus on the current and recent top-of-the-line machines. Due to the rapidly changing technology we will concentrate on the functions available on these machines. Projects will include embroidery and/or decorative and other stitches. All owners of a specific company's embroidery machines are welcome to join and attend with the understanding that some earlier models will have more limited functions for you to use. This year Pat Dykes will be teaching Janome Club. Meeting days will be Friday and Saturday mornings from 9:30-12:30 as per the dates below
